However, there was a 50-50 chance that the success was due to tissue regenerating after chemotherapy. But this could not be proven. If the method was indeed successful, it could be used in the future for social freezing as well. Tissue is removed from older women who later want to have another child.

The doctors at the erlangen women’s clinic have been researching the method for about ten years. Previously, the retransplantation of so-called cryopreserved ovarian tissue had already been successful in a patient with lymphatic cancer. At that time, the scientists worked together with the university hospitals in dresden and bonn. The woman then gave birth to a child in dresden by caesarean section. The tissue had been removed a few years earlier in bonn. In the current case, the entire therapy was carried out at the erlangen reproduction center.

Since 2007, eleven women in erlangen have received ovarian tissue transplants. In no case has the procedure failed, but so far only two children have been born from it. According to the university hospital in erlangen, only 13 children have been given life in this way worldwide.
